Retired Leuzinger Teacher Honored
Greater Kingston Washington Kiwanis Club
Honors Glenn Malin As Member of The Year
Kingston Community News, July 2020
In a small club like Greater Kingston Kiwanis, every member has to fully engage and participate in the many service projects carried out to make each and everyone successful. But each year, the Kiwanis president is privileged to recognize one member who has been a particularly outstanding contributor. For 2020, President Janice Erickson is proud to award the Kiwanis Member of The Year to Glenn Malin.
Not only has Malin served various offices in the club, including secretary, first vice president for the programs and president (2018-2019), he has also served for many years as secretary for the Greater Kingston Kiwanis Foundation. In that capacity, he simplified the scholarship application process, enabled electronic submission, and facilitated the online selection process. Malin has also been responsible for maintaining the Greater Kiwanis Foundation Facebook page.
Malin has long been an active participant in Kiwanis service projects from food drives to the Halloween Carnival. He has been a faithful worker at Salmon Slam, the Kiwanis Benefit Concert and Brew Fest, and the blueberry sales usually selling raffle tickets, taking money and checking identification.
Malin has served on the Kingston Fourth of July Tiny Town committee and spent countless hours onsite supervising that event. He is the Kiwanis Liaison for the Kingston Community Advisory Committee and has managed the "Town of Kingston" Facebook page for several years. He has been a regular participant at various fundraisers in Kingston, including Pie In The Park, the Boys and Girls Club Galas, and events for the Village Green.
A retired physics teacher, Malin brings his dry sense of humor to Kiwanis meetings, often in the form of physics demonstrations: fuzzy volcanoes, hot air balloons and race car experiments. You never know how he will challenge members but one can plan on being entertained. Congratulations to Glenn Malin, our 2020 Kiwanis Member of the Year. Malin will be saluted by the club in this year's Fourth of July parade where community members may drive by and cheer him on.
