05-25-2019 - Memorial Day Weekend: Remember Luis Nava '79
Memorial Day Weekend Remembering Luis Alonzo Nava - Class of 1979
'At the crack of dawn, 6:22am on October 23, 1983... a red Mercedes truck rumbled through a Lebanese army checkpoint near the U.S. Marine Battalion Landing Team headquarters at Beirut International Airport.
It picked up speed, crashed a roll of barbed wire, sped between sentry bunkers and burst through a wrought iron gate into the Marine compound. The driver then triggered a cargo of more than two tons of TNT. All four stories of the structure slammed to earth, crushing most of the three hundred occupants.
One of those who died was Luis Nava. Luis graduated from Leuzinger in 1979. Those who knew him remember his quiet manner and warm smile. We salute him as an Olympian and American hero.' - The 1984 Pylon Yearbook
