STYX’S ONLY NO. 1 ALBUM, ‘PARADISE THEATRE’ provided The Theme to our Junior-Senior Prom: The Best of Times. The album arrived January 19th 1981, and immediately added another entry to Styx's growing stack of hits, cementing their status as one of the era's biggest bands.
Paradise Theatre couched no less than four hit singles (including twin Top 10s “The Best of Times” and “Too Much Time on My Hands”) inside a full-fledged concept album where every deeper cuts (“Snowblind,” “Half-Penny, Two Penny,” etc.) also counted.
The album was loosely based on the rise and fall of a once-beautiful theater (which was supposedly used as a metaphor for the state of the U.S. at the time --- the Iranian hostage situation, the Cold War, Reagan, etc.).
