11-25-2011 - Season's Greetings: Gathering The Family and Love
Gathering The Family and Love
Love is an essential ingredient in life. This is the time of the year that we come together for healing the soul and the body. We travel long distances for family reunions. Years ago, when families lived nearby, there were more opportunities to share in one anothers joys and sorrows. You could watch your nieces and nephews grow up right before your very eyes. The holidays are often the only times for face-to-face discussions and talk of milestones achieved during the past year.
In our heart of hearts, we want to know if we count for something. We don't want to be taken for granted. It's always nice to receive a compliment. Go beyond telling your mom that you enjoy those delicious cookies that require lots of love and perfection. She also needs to know that you appreciate the time she took from her busy schedule to babysit so you and your spouse could go shopping. And remember, while your aunt may be glad you liked her gift, she will be thrilled to hear you say, "I'm really glad you are my aunt!" This expression validates a person for who they are... not for what they do.
Life is potentially too short. It is precious and shouldn't be taken for granted by any of us. Love is the perfect glue that binds a family together. Lots of love and respect can go a long way to bringing a family closer together.
