03-01-2005 - Terry Randal '80 - Helping Children Face Severe or Life-threatening Illness
Terry Randal '80
is a non-profit organization granting wishes to children facing severe or life-threatening illness. It's initial efforts have been on behalf of children from the Jonathan Jaques Children's Cancer Center (JJCCC) at Miller Children's Hospital in Long Beach. A number of children from this center have already had dreams fulfilled of meeting a special person or attending an extraordinary event.
Connections with specific children are developed based on recommendations from the psychosocial team at the hospital. Families are put in touch with Dream Maker and arrangements are made to fulfill a wish and bring joy to a child's life, providing a day which is as much as possible free from worries about disease, tests, and treatments.
Some notable celebrities such as Mike Meyers, Johnny Depp, Jeff Gordon, Lindsay Lohan, Hillary Duff, Aaron Carter, Dale Earnhardt Jr, 'Linkin Park' rockband, Cameron Diaz, Tony Hawk, Jeremy McGrath, Ricky Carmichael, and many others have helped Terry make these children's dreams come true.
