Samuel L Banda - Class of 1979
January 03, 1961 - August 07, 2020
'I want to thank each and everyone of you for your kind words and prayers over the passing of My husband and My best friend Sam. We have known each other since we were 18 years old. We got married two years later. His job was going to lay him off so he joined the Army. After boot camp, I moved to Texas where we got married. Seven months later he received orders to go to Fulda, Germany. He wanted me to go but I thought it was a scary place and decided to stay here. He would also have to stay in longer if I went. He got out of the Army in October 1983. From that point forward, we were stuck to each other like glue because of that very long separation.
We have been married now 38 years. We were planning on having a party for our 40th Anniversary. We have three beautiful children, Samantha (named after Sam by me), Josh, who is our only begotten son, and Patty, literally our Angel ūüėá baby and a Daddy‚Äôs girl. We have a 16 year old grandson, Cristien, Samantha‚Äôs miracle baby, and two new grand kids from Josh and our beautiful daughter in law Ashley. Lykan, who is such a joy, so smart and stole a huge piece of our hearts ‚ô•ÔłŹ. They have a new baby girl Scarlet, who just turned one. She is such a ham and a definite daddy‚Äôs girl. Sam would take Lykan to all of Cristien‚Äôs practice‚Äôs and games. Lykan has a special ear that Sam loved to kiss off and ask Lykan, who‚Äôs ear is it. He will tell you today, Grandpa‚Äôs ear.
Send your prayers for Cristien and Lykan to be able to handle this tremendous loss without missing a step. Instead of flowers, we want to do a fundraiser to send a child to a Perfect Game Tournament in Sam’s name. These are expensive tournaments and the MLB follows these kids. Thank you again for all of your prayers, we greatly appreciate them.' ~ Gayle Banda.
* Sam graduated 1 year early in 1978. He played both football and baseball. He then started working at Northrup Grumman and in 1980 he joined the United States Army where he served a 3 year tour.
