Lupe L Aguilar - Class of 1969
January 21, 1951 - April 17, 2020
Late in the evening of April 17th, we received notice that Lupe Aguilar had passed away. Lupe had been ill since Saturday March 21, 2020 when he showed symptoms of a fever, headaches and chest congestion. He tested positive for Covid-19.
Lupe resided in Denver, CO with his wife Gia and his family.
He was a retired flight attendant for Continental Airlines. In an ironic twist of fate, Lupe was a passenger onboard Continental Airlines Flight 603, a McDonnell Douglas DC-10 flight between Los Angeles International Airport and Honolulu International Airport. On March 1, 1978, it crashed during an aborted takeoff, resulting in the deaths of four passengers. Upon evacuation from the front of the aircraft, he saw less fortunate passengers that needed assistance. As the flames began to engulf the plane, he ran to help them. They all ran to safety from the flames and watched as the plane began to disintegrate. A few weeks later, Lupe Aguilar received an award for going “Above and Beyond” for his assistance to those in need. Years later, he became a flight attendant.
Lupe played on Leuzinger High School's Varsity Football Team. He was a talented photographer who studied at the Colorado Institute of Art. He was dearly loved by his family and friends.
