Irene Whitaker Greasby - Class of 1951
May 8, 1933 -  March 10, 2020

Irene Whitaker Greasby, a life-long resident of southern California, suffered a fall followed by complications due to pneumonia. Irene is survived by her brother, Jack (June) Richardson of Savannah, GA, and her children, Janice (Bruce) Bradford of Yorba Linda, Wade Greasby of Mill Valley, Kirk (Lori) Greasby of Florissant, CO, Stacy (Steve) Lopez of Whittier, and Leslie Greasby of Desert Hot Springs. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Irene was born in Inglewood, California on May 8, 1933 to Ralph and Vie Whitaker. She graduated from Leuzinger High School in 1951 where she would lead the high school band as the Head Majorette. She made many life-long friends from her high school days and continued to meet with them on a monthly basis up until her death. On June 25, 1953 she was married to G.C. “Bruv” Greasby for more than 40 years, where they resided in Hawthorne. Irene was a Dental Assistant for 25 years. She not only welcomed each and every patient into the dental office, but made them feel comfortable and at ease before their required procedures. In 1999, five years after Bruv’s death, she said good-bye to the City of Hawthorne and moved to Desert Hot Springs, CA, where she continued to make many new friends and took up golf as a new hobby.

Irene was a devoted wife and mother. She was very active supporting her kids in PTA, Pop Warner Football, Hawthorne Little League, Hawthorne High School Booster Club, Int’l Order of the Rainbow for Girls, and Hawthorne Girls Softball, just to name a few. Along with her husband, she also volunteered and supported the Hawthorne Kiwanis Club, and was a member of the Hawthorne Emblem Club.

A “Celebration of Life” memorial service is pending until the COVID-19 subsides. She was loved by all and will be sorely missed.
