Donald Eugene Barclay - Class of 1946
February 2, 1929 - December 18, 2018

Longtime Southland real estate developer Donald Barclay passed away peacefully at his home in Rancho Palos Verdes CA with his wife Marilyn by his side. A stroke in 2013 partially paralyzed him but did not slow him down from his lifetime commitment to his daily fitness routine, nor his passion for life.

Born in Lawndale in 1929 to William and Mabel Gildersleeve Barclay, Don graduated from Leuzinger High School and later attended UCLA while continuing to work for the family business Barclay Engineering Co. in Hawthorne, started by his father in the 1930s where he learned the surveying business alongside brothers William, Robert and Richard. After their father's passing in 1946, the brothers continued to grow the family business. In 1961, with longtime friends, Mike Hollander and Shurl Curci, the brothers formed Barclay-Hollander-Curci. BHC became a regional home building company that subdivided land and built more than 25,000 tract homes across Southern California along with apartment communities and whose efforts pioneered the first ever condominium project in Ca. In 1971 the partners sold BHC to Castle and Cooke Corporation. Don established Real Property Resources in 1977. RPR focused on developing major tenant shopping centers and office complexes in California and Oregon and continues today as an asset management firm. Family was the cornerstone of Don's fruitful life.

He was predeceased by his parents and brothers as well as sisters Beatrice and Marilyn Barclay Gause, his first two wives, Erma Thompson Barclay (d.1974) and Lois McComas Barclay (d.1986). He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Marilyn Barclay, sons Robert (Pam) and Rodger (Ginger) Barclay, and grandchildren Richard and Scott Barclay and Beverly Barclay Rose and Anna Barclay. He is also survived by the Putnam family, Martinez family and Nocks family, along with many nephews, nieces, family members and friends who were touched by his loving, generosity.

A celebration of life will be held on February 2, 2019 at 11 A.M. on what would have been Don's 90th birthday, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 26231 Silver Spur Rd., Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275.
