'I never thought I would have to make this announcement. Especially on this solemn day. My heart is heavy and I feel numb. Prayers and thoughts go out to the people who lost loved ones on this day in 2001.
But, yesterday I received a phone call my niece Krystle (my sister’s daughter) crying fervently. Her mother was complaining about being short of breath. She reached for her inhaler. Within a few moments, she stopped breathing. The paramedics arrived and tried to recover her for nearly 30 minutes but to no avail.
Many of you know that we lost Mark’s father to cardiac arrest in October 2017 and then 4 months to the day lost his youngest sister to an accidental overdose. Well, my sister passed yesterday, 7 months and 2 days from the passing of Mark’s Sister Lisa. That is 3 deaths in less than one year.
I suffer from PTSD because back in 2009 I began losing close friends and family in rapid succession. This past year has been no different.
PTSD is a silent disorder. Complicated by depression and anxiety. Our first responders and servicemen and women suffer the same. Please be kind to someone today. You may feel that you do not not make a difference in the world, but to that one person you mean the world to him/her.
I’ll miss my sister severely. She was a postal carrier, mother, auntie, wife, grandmother and so much more. She is survived by her husband, Gary Bettis (38 yrs), her children Krystle and Michael, and two grandchildren Tatiana and Elijah and three cats Timon, Pumbaa, and Pearl.
