George William Saunders Sr - Leuzinger Teacher

From 1944 to 1946, George spent World War 2 on a destroyer escort, DE201 which had a crew compliment of over 200 sailors. During his first shore leave, George married his love Charlotte on November 18, 1945. George was Honorably Discharged in March 1946.
He received his Teaching Degree in 1947 and taught at Alice Deal Jr High School in Washington, D.C. He earned his Masters Degree in Secondary Administration from George Washington University. During this time, George and Charlotte had four children (3 boys, 1 girl). Their little girl died after 3 months.
In 1954, George moved the family to California. He got a job teaching physics and mathematics at the high school that he graduated from... Leuzinger High School, Class of 1940. He loved teaching, and realized that he did not want to be an administrator. George retired from Leuzinger High School on February 1, 1980.
In 1986, George and Charlotte moved to Olympia, WA where their three boys resided. The oldest, George, Jr., worked for the Washington State Department of Transportation as a Computer Consultant. The middle, Brian, worked in Tacoma for the Tacoma Tribune. The youngest, David, was head gardener for the Washington State Department, Labor and Industry building.
George was hired as Computer Consultant for the Department of Corrections. He taught engineers computer technology, helping them complete databases, spreadsheets, org charts, reports, etc.
Wife, Charlotte Virginia Hazel Saunders passed away on November 04, 2008.
'After he retired, he and his wife moved up to Olympia WA. He worked for the state learning and then teaching software applications to state employees. He referred to them as 'his students.' Later as his heath failed, he was cared for by his son Brian (my long time friend). George stayed positive despite some serious difficulties.
