David Kane - Class of 2005
August 22, 1987 - March 12, 2016
David Kane was hit about 2:15 am on Tuesday March 01st 2016 as he tried to cross Pacific Coast Highway near South High School. This hit-and-run accident in Torrance put David in a coma, while his family kept vigil at his hospital bedside, talking to him and touching him in the hope he would recover. David suffered severe head injuries and died March 12.
Torrance Police are looking for help to find a 2007 to 2009 Toyota Camry with front-end damage. The car likely should be missing its front Toyota emblem and the driver’s side fog lamp insert. Both could have recently been replaced, police said. The car’s color is unknown.
David's mother Nani Kane credited his excellent physical condition with keeping him alive (while in his coma). He does not smoke or drink, and works as a personal trainer. He played SlamBall, a form of basketball with trampolines in front of the nets, in Australia.
“He loves basketball,” his mother said. “Every chance he gets, he’s playing basketball. ... He’s a health nut, always working out.”
Kane is the older brother to five siblings in a San Pedro family, and had planned to move into his own place that Thursday.
“He is awesome,” his mother said. “They all look up to him very much.”
