Leuzinger High School Class of 1981 - American Graffitti
George Lucas's second feature film was American Graffitti. Set in 1962, the film follows one night in the lives of some graduated high school students. Steve (Ron Howard) prepares to leave for college the next day. Laurie (Cindy Williams) is upset by his departure. Laurie's brother Curt (Richard Dreyfuss), the class intellectual, is slated for college but has doubts about his future. He ends up pursuing a mysterious blonde (Suzanne Somers) throught the late night and early morning hours. John (Paul LeMat) is a cool drag racer who feels pressure to live up to his reputation. He ends up drag racing against a very young Harrison Ford, but not before picking up a chatty 13 year old Carol (Mackenzie Phillips). Who can forget the hopeless nerd (Charles Martin Smith) who wins the heart of Candy Clark. All the while, Wolfman Jack spins the latest hits... teenagers cruising down the boulevard... eating at the teen hangout 'Mel's Diner'... and jumping from character to character as they enjoy and stress over their last moments of summer. The movie was based on George Lucas's own teenage hot rodding days in Modesto, California. This would be the start of something very big for the actors of this film. Even after all these years, it is still one of my personal favorites. I enjoy watching it as much today as I did yesterday.
